HBG News: Gordon Ramsay's Home Cooking

gGordon Ramsay is a household name thanks to his fouled mouth, explosive personality on shows like Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares, Masterchef and Hell’s Kitchen. He is the black sheep of the culinary reality TV world, but off the small screen he is also a highly regarded chef.  In 2006, he was awarded an OBE for services to the industry, and is one of only four chefs in the UK to maintain three Michelin stars. Now, having mastered both the realms of the London restaurant scene and American television, Ramsay, is releasing another cookbook to further prove that he is one of the masters of his craft. His cookbook, "Gordon Ramsay's Home Cooking: Everything You Need to Know to Make Fabulous Food," will be available this April and will provide simple, straightforward cooking lessons for beginners to experienced cooks.

Each chapter will focus on a different area of cooking—from classics to how to cook with spice, through baking, and roasting, and will include helpful sections on how to prep, clean and pan fry like a pro! Readers will learn how to create scrumptious, vibrant and drool-worthy dishes like miso braised salmon fillet with Asian vegetables, Pork and Bacon slider with homemade BBQ sauce, Wild Mushroom Risotto Arrancini, and Baked Lemon Cheesecake with Raspberries. Nom Nom Nom!

Crammed with delicious recipes, and invaluable tips, Gordon Ramsay's Home Cooking is the perfect guide to creating amazing meals at home. We cannot wait for its release!

Exciting New Publisher!

page street logoIt isn't every day you get to be on board for the launch of a publisher's very first season, especially not one made up of people brimming with such enthusiasm, experience, and vision. To say that we are excited about Page Street Publishing here at Manda would be an understatement, and when you see the books on offer this upcoming season you'll immediately understand why. The logo for Page Street Publishing is an old printing press block belonging to the publisher Will Kiester's father, and it is the perfect symbol for a company that is devoted to the fading tradition of bookmaking as an art form. The books are exceptional; the aesthetic is clean, crisp, and vibrant - crafted with attention to detail that is characteristic of true quality.  The lifestyle authors are incredible at what they do whether it's cooking, baking, or taking care of chickens.

Will Kiester is keeping it current, making books that are inspirational, affordable, beautiful, and useful.  And this is just the first list for their very first season! I can't wait to see what they have for us next. Here are a few examples of this season's upcoming titles to keep you satiated.

Leon Naturally Fast Food is a book of two halves. The first half is ‘Fast Food’, which contains recipes that take a maximum of 20 minutes to prepare, ranging from a work-day breakfast and children’s meals to simple dinners and party food. The second half is ‘Slow Fast Food’, which contains things that can be made in advance when you have time, to enjoy when you don’t have time. Containing more than 200 recipes, there is plenty in both halves of this collection for both the experienced cook and the culinary adventurer in search of inspiration.

Only six months after the first branch opened, Leon was voted “Best New Restaurant” by such judges as Gordon Ramsay and Heston Blumenthal in the 2005 Observer Food Awards and there are now 11 Leon restaurants in London and the southeast of England.

The restaurant group, leon was founded on the twin principles that food can both taste good and do you good. In July 2004, when Henry Dimbleby, John Vincent and Allegra McEvedy opened their first outlet, on London’s Carnaby Street, their aim was to change the face of fast food. Only six months after the first branch opened, Leon was voted “Best New Restaurant” by such judges as Gordon Ramsay and Heston Blumenthal in the 2005 Observer Food Awards and there are now 11 Leon restaurants in London and the southeast of England.

CAKE ON A STICK

When these bite sized desserts on a stick first made their way into Starbucks last fall, I must admit I was skeptical of the trend. I assumed the idea would generate a little buzz along with some decent initial sales and then the cute little display in the glass dessert case would promptly fade away – another brief but well-meaning fad gone bad.  I mean, the goal these days is to eat clean, buy local, and put kale in EVERYTHING.  How was the cake on a stick idea going to survive?  Well, I need not have feared.  It seems even the healthiest and greenest, amongst us need a treat to go with their soy late once in a while and hey, it's not like ordering an entire piece of cake - it's but a guiltless bite! Why the heck not?

These little drops of heaven are perfect for a shower, wedding, birthday or tea. Feeling inspired? Bake your own! Cake Pops (April 2012, Spruce, $14.99) by Helen Attridge and Abby Foy is an adorable, colourful little volume with easy to follow, easy to make recipes for creating fun, fanciful cake pops at home.  The book opens with simple recipes for making a basic vanilla cake and frosting that are easily adapted to other flavor variations, such as chocolate and lemon.  Easy-to -follow instructions and visual guides teach you how to make the balls, dip them, decorate and shape them.  Useful tips cover everything from masking cracks to make ahead suggestions, adjusting colors, personalizing, and presentation.

28 great designs include everything from the simplest pretty pink pops with sprinkles to chocolate dipped strawberries and teddy bear and piggy pops.  The designs vary in degree of difficulty, but there is something for everyone at every level, including children.
